General Information

A little about the city of Windsor! Windsor is Canada’s southernmost destination that shares the same latitude as Rome, Italy, Napa Valley, California and Barcelona, Spain. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the miles of spectacular waterfront parkland that invites walking, cycling, or rollerblading in the city. Windsor being a border city with Detroit, Michigan, places you on the cosmopolitan stage where arts, culture, big league sports and entertainment are just moments away. Best of all, you can access all these “big-city” advantages while living in the relative tranquility of a much smaller, friendlier community. With some 109 different ethnic cultures represented, Windsor is also a place where you will find a broad range of religious practices, cultural events, activities, and cuisines.

Windsor

Its main waterfront park stretches about 5 kilometres, from the 1929 Ambassador suspension bridge past the contemporary Windsor Sculpture Park. Also along the waterfront are monuments dedicated to the Canadian armed forces at Dieppe Gardens, plus Caesars Windsor, a casino complex overlooking Detroit.

Resident Experience

Nicholas Laird
PGY-3
In your opinion, what are the highlights of your program?
The small, tight-knit community size of Windsor residents truly makes our program unique. Not only does it allow for direct supervision from preceptors, lots of unique learning opportunities, but for direct mentorship and friendships with upper year residents to truly allow you to feel as though you are part of the group, part of our family.
Our psychotherapy curriculum is very strong. Allowing early exposure for residents with direct one-on-one supervision and feedback as well as shared feedback with the group for robust learning.
Supportive, caring. Windsor is like one large family.
There is always lots to do in Windsor outside of work. Myself, I’ve become involved in many extra curricular activities including being in musical theatre productions, recreational sports leagues, to owning a pet, going out with friends to sight see in so it h-western Ontario or even in Detroit. Windsor program is focused on wellness and providing you ways to flourish both in your professional life but also your personal life as well.
The wellness and social reps in Windsor are responsible for planning a variety of wellness days and social events to bring residents together as well as opportunities to get to know preceptors and ensure wellbeing within the program.
Getting the opportunity to work in new rotations with new preceptors whom I have not yet had the privilege of working with yet, but have continually heard excellent things about.
