Program Highlights

Interprovincial and international electives can be taken. There are no restrictions on elective locations, however please note that electives are not subsidized.

The ratio of residents to faculty is 15 residents to 13 faculty.

There are two arranged rural community rotations. One in Belleville during the Foundations of Discipline Training, and one in Peterborough during the Core of Discipline Training.

A concurrent Masters of Community Health or Biomedical engineering is possible with additional training.

Queen’s University Orthopedic residency training program underwent a regular Royal College accreditation site survey in March 2018, and received full approval by the Accreditation Committee.

We currently offer community orthopedic rotations at Belleville General Hospital and Peterborough Regional Health Centre, with the hopes of collaborating with several other community hospitals in the near future.

Prep Time
  1. Subject to operational requirements and at the request of a resident, a resident will not be scheduled for call duties for a period up to fourteen days prior to a CFPC or RCPSC certification exam.
  2. Subject to operational requirements and at the request of a resident, a resident *will be granted up to seven consecutive days off during one of the four week*s preceding a CFPC or RCPSC certification exam.

Residents are entitled to at least 5 consecutive days off over the Christmas or New Year period, which accounts for 3 statutory holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day), and 2 weekend days.
