The Pediatric Clinical Immunology and Allergy program at the University of Manitoba has a longstanding history of training internationally recognized physicians within the specialty. The program offers a balanced learning experience of outpatient care within a tertiary center and community clinics, challenging outpatient consultations, along with abundant formal teaching exposures. Trainees have pursued a broad variety of careers, including both research and clinical focuses. Trainees have published and presented peer reviewed manuscripts and abstracts at national and international meetings. Perhaps the greatest strength of our training program is the approachable and friendly nature of our support staff and staff physicians.
Research
All trainees are expected to undertake a research project. This may be clinical or basic science depending on their interest. Clinical studies may be organized with any of the members of the Clinical Immunology & Allergy program, while basic studies are usually organized with affiliated members if the Clinical Immunology & Allergy training program (e.g. Clinical Pharmacology, Rheumatology). Clinical studies may involve such areas as: drug studies, retrospective chart reviews, prospective clinical trials, and studies of diagnostic tests used in the practice of Clinical Immunology & Allergy, etc.
Trainees are expected to present results of their research projects at national and international meetings.
