Faits saillants

The Queen’s Palliative Medicine training program offers a significant diversity of patients and clinical sites:

  • We have urban, suburban, and rural patients, with exposure to indigenous and marginalized populations including incarcerated individuals.
  • We provide care in a tertiary hospital (Kingston General Hospital), subacute hospital (Providence Care Hospital) providing consultation and MRP care in both acute and hospice settings as well as community palliative care.
  • We provide outpatient clinics in the Cancer Center of Southeastern Ontario (and our residents have resident-led longitudinal clinic to get to know patients and families over time) as well as a Neuromuscular/ALS clinic, Lung Diagnostic Assessment Program (LDAP – lung cancer workup clinic), ILD clinic, and conservative renal clinics.

Our residents benefit from individualized attention and a close-knit group of clinicians and educators with excellent access to the clinical, teaching and research resources of Kingston Health Sciences Center and Queen’s University. Kingston is a wonderful city to live in with great amenities, food, and cultural activities within a small and friendly city.

Renseignements généraux

The majority of training will occur at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) at the tertiary Kingston General Hospital (KGH) site. KGH is located near downtown Kingston, adjacent to Queen’s campus and Lake Ontario. Some ambulatory clinics may be located at the Hotel Dieu Hospital (HDH) site which is in downtown Kingston or Providence Care Hospital. The Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario (CCSEO) is attached to KGH for ambulatory cancer (oncology and palliative) clinics.

Further training will occur at the Providence Care Hospital (PCH) including our 10 bed sub-acute Palliative Care Unit. All of these sites are located within close proximity of one another with a shuttle running between KGH, HDH and PCH.

We are looking for trainees who are skilled, dedicated and interested in a career in Palliative Medicine. This skill, dedication and interest can be demonstrated at any university. It is helpful to have completed an elective at any university where you are applying, for you as much as for the program, but this is not a requirement to be accepted into the program.
