BC Children’s Hospital is located in beautiful Vancouver. The Hospital is the sole tertiary care centre for Pediatric Gastroenterology in the Province of British Columbia and serves a Pediatric population of approximately 1 million children aged 0 –18 years. Our clinical unit’s staff includes 10 Gastroenterologists, 2 basic science researchers, clinical trainees of various levels of training from medical students to fellows, 4 clinical nurses, several dietitians, and support clerical and administrative staff.

The BCCH ambulatory care program sees nearly 1200 new referrals and 1900 follow-up patients in the clinic per year, plus 370 medical day unit and 50 ER assessments. We follow approximately 500 children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease with approximately 100 new patients diagnosed with IBD every year. The clinic also follows large numbers of patients with celiac disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, liver disease and other chronic GI disorders, as well as patients both pre- and post-liver transplant. There are specialty clinics for multi-organ transplant, celiac disease, hepatology, complex feeding/nutrition, eosinophilic esophagitis, and IBD, as well as general GI clinics.

We accept 1-2 trainees per year.
