Demonstrating interest in radiology can be done in a numbers of ways, including completing a scholarly project. This is a great way to contribute to the scholarship of radiology, expand your knowledge about a particular subject, and work closely with a mentor who will help guide your project, and could also be a good reference for you when you apply for residency.

There are several opportunities for our residents to teach in our residency program. Our residents participate in Resident Led Rounds with their colleagues twice a month. In addition, there are several opportunities to teach medical students at different stages of their medical training. Our residents also have oppourtunities for viewer side teaching of elective medical students and residents, which allows for teaching of both clinical and academic pearls with real time cases.

Feedback is provided to residents during daytime and afterhours shifts by the attending radiologist that is working with them. In addition, end of rotation evaluations allow for a summative feedback based on all of the attending radiologists that the resident has worked with on that rotation. The Program Director also meets with all residents, at least twice during the academic year, to discuss how their rotations, evaluations, and exams have been throughout the academic year. If a resident is needing more coaching in a particular area based on feedback, the Program Director will schedule more one-on-one sessions to address these areas, and help create a personal learning plan to ensure these areas for improvement are strengthened.

Our residents generally make themselves available during the CaRMS interview process for a relaxed virtual session to discuss the program and answer any questions you may have.

Please feel free to contact the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Director, Dr. John Ross Bonanni, jbonanni@hsc.mb.ca, who would be happy to answer any further questions you have about our program, or direct you to one of our colleagues who can better address your inquiries.
