Renseignements généraux

Halifax is a very ‘walkable’ city — most residents live in the downtown core. Halifax is home to one of the world’s longest downtown boardwalks — stroll along the waterfront. Drop into a pub or restaurant for some great local food and live music. Go for a run in Point Pleasant Park. Enjoy an ice-cream in the Public Gardens.

The Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market is the longest continuously operating farmers’ market in North America — a great place to visit on the weekend.
Aside from being able to see the ocean from most locations in the city’s downtown core, beautiful beaches and excellent surfing are also in close proximity.

Halifax is historical! We have the first seat of democratic government in Canada (1758). The Fairview Lawn Cemetery has the world’s largest collective group of graves from the Titanic tragedy. Halifax is home to the greatest man-made explosion before the atomic bomb – the Halifax Explosion on Dec. 6, 1917

Daytrips / staycations are close by — the South Shore, the Annapolis Valley, Cape Breton’s Cabot Trail are a short drive away.

Halifax cityscape from water
Halifax
Halifax, an Atlantic Ocean port in eastern Canada, is the provincial capital of Nova Scotia. A major business centre, it’s also known for its maritime history. The city’s dominated by the hilltop Citadel, a star-shaped fort completed in the 1850s. Waterfront warehouses known as the Historic Properties recall Halifax’s days as a trading hub for privateers, notably during the War of 1812.
