Simcoe is a vibrant town nestled in the heart of Norfolk County, along Ontario’s southern Gold Coast on the north shore of Lake Erie. Known for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant community, Simcoe offers a unique blend of rural charm and modern amenities. The area is rich in agricultural heritage and provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and water sports. Simcoe’s close-knit community is welcoming and supportive, making it an ideal place for family medicine residents to live and learn. Simcoe residents will have their core-family medicine homebase in either Simcoe, Delhi, or Port Rowan, with off -service rotations predominantly being in Brantford. This program is designed to prepare residents for a fulfilling career as rural family physicians, equipped with the skills and experiences needed to thrive in various medical contexts.

The academic hub for this site is the Brantford General Hospital, where Simcoe residents will join the Brantford-Indigenous Health Hub residents for academic sessions and some rotations, ensuring a collaborative and enriching  training experience.

The Simcoe Site provides a comprehensive training experience with a focus on rural healthcare.

Highlights of the site include:

Diverse Rotations:
Residents participate in a wide range of specialty rotations, including ICU, Palliative Care, Anaesthesia, andOR assisting, ensuring a well-rounded clinical experience.

Teaching Opportunities:
Residents have the chance to teach local Physician Assistant (PA) and nursing students, as well as contributeto the undergraduate MD program in Hamilton, enhancing their teaching and mentorship skills.

Community Engagement:
The program emphasizes the importance of community involvement, allowing residents to develop strongrelationships with their patients and understand the unique healthcare needs of rural populations.

International Agricultural Worker Program:
Simcoe’s program has received national media coverage for its eff ective pandemic response, providingcritical healthcare services to international agricultural workers highlighting the importance of culturally safeand competent care in our region.

Family Health Team Resources and Allied Health:
The FHT offers clinic sites in Simcoe, Delhi, and Port Rowan, providing team-based care with diverse clinical opportunities. Key services include the Chronic Pain Clinic, International Agricultural Worker Clinic, Midwifery Clinic, Clinical Dietitian, Social Work services including the “Talk-In Clinic” Mental Health Walk-In Clinic, and Family Medicine Dermatology. Prep Time
  1. Subject to operational requirements and at the request of a resident, a resident will not be scheduled for call duties for a period up to fourteen days prior to a CFPC or RCPSC certification exam.
  2. Subject to operational requirements and at the request of a resident, a resident *will be granted up to seven consecutive days off during one of the four week*s preceding a CFPC or RCPSC certification exam.

Residents are entitled to at least 5 consecutive days off over the Christmas or New Year period, which accounts for 3 statutory holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day), and 2 weekend days.

A resident that can’t work due to illness or injury will have salary and benefits maintained for 6 months or until end of appointment (whichever occurs first)
Call Stipend
Regular:
$127.60 in-hospital; $63.80 home call or qualifying shift on shift-based services.
Weekend premium:
$140.36 in-hospital; $70.18 home call or qualifying shift on shift-based services.
